Domino Kirke-Badgley
Domino Kirke-Badgley is a powerful mix of beauty, raw talent, grace, wit and soul. She has been a longtime friend of ours and we were excited to catch up after hearing she would be putting out a new album soon. Aside from her musical talents and divine voice, she is a long time doula who is mainly mentoring and teaching now as she shifts more focus on other projects and her family. Scroll on down as Domino chats upcoming show dates, collaborating with her musician/writer sister Lola Kirke, style, skincare/haircare regime, bare essentials and how her love Penn Badgley helps creates sweet harmony in their life together.
The Bare Magazine: We had such a lovely time taking photos in Brooklyn a while back in October 2024! Can you catch us up with what's new and how ya been since?
Domino Kirke-Badgley: I’ve been well! Never a dull moment raising a teen and a toddler, and running a small businesses. I’m just grateful that this year I’ll have some creative juices flowing with this new record finally in the world.
Bare: When can we expect your new music? Have you played a few shows? Any upcoming you can share?
DK-B: The record will be announced soon, but it’s due to come out in early Spring. I’m playing a show at The Owl on Feb 27th and at Union Pool April 25th.
Bare: Do you and your sister, Lola, another amazing singer and musician, consult with each other on projects? Are you planning some duets?
DK-B: Lola is an epic song writer. She has a real formula. She’s definitely run some ideas by me in the past that became real bangers on her record. It’s such an honor to hear them when they’re little seedlings. I did the same with her while I was making my record.
Bare: You have been a doula and working with Carriage House Birth for how long? Can you share your thoughts on working with them and how inspirational it has been? In what way does it fulfill you?
DK-B: I’ve been working as a birth doula for 15 yrs. I’ve owned a doula collective for 13 yrs. Being on call teaches you about detachment and impermanence. It forces you to be in the moment because you never know when you’ll be called to a birth. It’s been a very fulfilling career.
Nowadays I focus more on mentoring and teaching doulas than attending births. I needed to focus more being with my family and focusing on music and my other businesses - The Wild (a parenting store) and Grand Street Healing Project (a community space for the healing arts).
Bare: What qualities as a father do you admire most about your partner, Penn? In what way do you feel like you're an excellent team? Penn’s a realist.
DK-B: He’s very grounded in his spiritual beliefs, is incredibly patient, and understands what it takes to find that balance with family and creativity/work. We help each other very much in that way. It’s quite a dance.
Bare: Switching into your incredible skin and hair! can you give us a glimpse into your daily skincare/haircare routine? What products you use often?
DK-B: I’m all about oil. I use Josh Rosenbrook’s line at the moment. It’s so delicious and hydrating. I use ACV on my hair daily, and New Wash when I want to cleanse it.
Bare: How would you describe your personal style? Is vintage a big part of your wardrobe? What designers suit your style?
DK-B: I need comfort. After dressing up for 25+ yrs as a NYC teen and young adult, once I became a doula and a mum at 26, I decided to stop wearing heels and wear things that were soft and comfy. Lots of jeans and cardigans. Easy dresses, Blundstones, Berkinstocks. I’m very feminine. I love floral prints. But if something’s too fussy, it won’t work for me.
Bare: Please list your top 5/6 Bare essentials (they can be anyone or anything).
DK-B:
Big old vintage Coach bag (had for a decade), I can throw everything into
Headphones with a chord (Bluetooth freaks me out)
Needed hydration packets
Lanshin Pro’s Gua sha tools
