Kylie Cantrall

Yup she’s as cool and kind as she is gorgeous and talented. Kylie Cantrall was a blast to hang out with on one of her many press trips promoting her Disney+ musical/fantasy film Descendants: The Rise of Red. Kylie stars as Red the defiant and courageous daughter of Queen of Hearts played by Rita Ora. Kylie captured our hearts with her realness and candid chat about her Venezuelan roots, family, dreams, self-care, Bare essentials and a game changing skin cream. Scroll on down and get to know this singer (check her new single “Elastic”) songwriter, actor and smoldering young star on the rise.

The Bare Magazine: You have been on a whirlwind press tour! What have been some of the highlights both personally and professionally of this experience?

Kylie Cantrall: Yes, this press tour has definitely been a whirlwind, but I look back at all of the amazing people I got the chance to spend time with. I’m so lucky to be in this position to create such incredible memories around this movie release. For one thing, I didn’t expect to be doing so much press in the Latin markets but I’m so thankful for this wonderful opportunity to dust off my Spanish and share some stories about my Venezuelan roots.

Bare: If you were to step back in time would you change anything about your journey, choices or path?

KC: I really don’t think I would go back and change a thing. This is literally where I dreamed I would be when I was 8 years old and recording my You Tube Series “Hello Kylie”. I used to end every episode with my catch phrase "Keep on watching Disney Channel." And with Descendants airing on the channel in a couple of weeks, I need to start making that my catch phrase AGAIN! Hehe

Bare: Who and what are some of your biggest inspirations and influences both musically and creatively?

KC: I've always had a strange connection to the 90’s. I think that was such an amazing time for music and there were so many trailblazing female artists. Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears to name a few. Wow, I would love to use that pocket watch to go back and enjoy an EPIC afternoon glued to MTV.

Bare: Can you recall when you knew you wanted to be a performer/actor/singer and why? How did it make you feel to share your gifts with an audience?

KC: Music was always such a giant part of my life. I can remember doing concerts for my parents every night when I was 3, 4 years old. While my Dad was at work, I would figure out what songs I was going to sing, with costume changes and choreography. And as soon as my Dad walked in the door, I would have my parents sit on the living room couch and I would tell my Dad “Papa announce me, say Ladies and Gemma-Ninn” (gentlemen) ha-ha!!

Bare: Your zodiac sign is cancer….do you feel like crawling into your shell from time to time fuels your creative energy?

KC: I think it’s absolutely necessary to crawl back into my shell in order to recharge my creative battery. For me, that usually looks like listening to music on my record player in my bedroom, writing, scrolling through pinterest, and binging Sex and the City lol! That cozy alone time is so needed to re-energize , especially as a cancerian :)

Bare: When you have time what are you favorite indulgences and self care rituals....treats/escapes?!

KC: I LOVE a hike moment!!!!! It really gives me a chance to disconnect from the world for a bit, tap in with my girl nature, and just zone out in my headphones (usually i’m listening to Kali Uchis, Sade, or Cleo Sol)

Bare: What music have you been listening to lately on repeat?

KC: I truly believe that the music you gravitate towards is a direct reflection of your state of mind and I have to say right now for me i’ve had Charli XCX’s Brat album on REPEAT! So, I guess that’s the head space I've been in, feeling empowered, feeling silly, feeling like a brat!!!!!!!!

Bare: Your skin is gorgeous! You are really into skincare and it shows. What top 3 products help keep it in shape? Are you careful about sun protection?

KC: Drunk Elephant’s polypeptide cream has been a GAME CHANGER! Laneire face oil has been so hydrating for me (especially as a dry skin girly) and First Aid Beauty’s exfoliating pads have made my skin so so smooth!!!!!

Bare: You seem to enjoy creating and enhancing your style/look playing with your hair/makeup. What have been a few favorite looks lately on shoots and press gigs?

KC: I’ve been having a lot of fun on the Descendants press tour, it truly feels like I get to play dress up each day. I’ve been definitely taking inspo from my character and incorporating her energy into my looks. I especially loved my Kids Choice Awards look. It felt like the perfect blend of “Kylie” and “Red”
