Inde Navarrette
Multi-hyphenate beauty, Inde Navarrette , reminds us not to be afraid to create and explore different parts of ourselves. As she mentions in our interview, “ever-evolving” is her middle name. It helps to be comfortable/confident in your own bare skin to start with…and that she is. When she showed up to our shoot she had just come from a self tape audition and had on a little makeup, which was cleansed away. Check our photo diary and see Inde go from bare faced to punk bad ass wearing her own clothing. We also chat self-love, style, skincare, singing, Superman and Lois (she will appear in season 4) and her bare essentials have us curious about the cool car she drives…but no surprise it would be if it belongs to this compelling rising star.
The Bare Magazine: For our shoot you expressed a few different sides of yourself. Would you say you would describe your mood and sense of style as ever evolving and changing? Is it a fun form of self expression for you?
Inde Navarrette: I feel like "ever evolving" is my middle name. It used to make me feel a little unsure, unsteady but I've learned to embrace its flexibility...a Jack of all trades is a master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one. I find that always allowing myself freedom to learn, try and become new, is a superpower.
Bare: We've always been struck by your incredible creative streak and many talents. singing, acting, art, photography. Can you share how you try to balance all of these interests and would you choose one as tops on the list?
IN: Balancing is not something that comes naturally to me. Especially when it comes to my "talents." Growing up I would sing in the shower, and it's stuck with me all these years. It's me time. I never thought I would sing publicly. But since Superman & Lois wrote it in, it became something people now know about — which is awesome, knowing people like my voice, but to me it will always be something I do for myself just like I did when I was a kid. So, to me, it's not so much something I need to balance because trust me, it'll come out when it wants too.
That kind of goes for the rest as well. If I see something that's beautiful, I will capture it. Post it maybe. I have a folder called "POST?" with over 2,000 photos I find beautiful but haven't had the chance to show off. I really like to allow myself the freedom to do anything I feel like because that's where authentic, magical moments happen. Sometimes only for myself but hey, it's my life and I'm the one living it, so might as well do it for me, right?
Bare: Are you looking forward to stepping back into your Superman & Lois character, Sarah Cushing? What inspires you about her?
IN: Oh, I LOVE Sarah. She is my baby and will forever be my baby. I couldn't imagine wrapping up her character but sometimes you have too. I can't wait to see where she goes from here in her own little world. She's so fierce and so stubborn. Heartfelt and cold. She's so, so, so awesome!
Bare: Your face is an amazing canvas! Would you like to explore period pieces and from what eras?
IN: Oh, why thank you!! I have always needed, absolutely NEEDED, to try 20's makeup with pixie cut finger waves. It's a MUST.
Bare: Do you love creating different makeup looks? What are some favorite makeup brands you use often?
IN: Lately, I'll use OGEE cleanser and serums to prep my face. The organic ingredients have healed some sun damage on my skin and allows the makeup to sit SO beautifully. This past month I've been going no makeup as much as a I can to rebuild/heal some skin damage (I used the wrong products, and my skin paid the price).
BUT when I usually play with makeup, I've been OBSESSED with O/S lip liners. They stay on all day for me and the red packaging is so gorgeous in my make up bag. Kosas, Refy, Charlotte Tilbury, etc. I do updated makeup routines every now and again to show what I'm using that month. So tune in for this months to see what I've found!
Bare: Your skin is so beautiful and clear. Have you ever had issues with it, like going through your teens? What are you using lately to keep it glowing?
IN: Growing up my mom never let me wear makeup or anything like that. So, nothing was really affecting my skin at that time. But gentle cleaners to get the hormonal oil off was AMAZING. Especially when I started playing soccer. Soccer made my skin breakout a little bit, which is around the time I started really paying attention to what products work for my skin type. Then I got my skin care routine on lock!
Bare: When you're filming and super busy what do you do to care of yourself and escape/recharge?
IN: Mostly singing in the shower. That's my secret cool down. Never got into yoga or going out for a drink. Give me a hot shower and a speaker. I will come out a new woman.
Bare: Please list your top 5 bare essentials....they can be anything.
IN: Bare essentials:
1. Moisturizer ( I'm obsessed with Osea at the moment)
2. My roll on perfume by Dojo Candles
3. Hand balm ( Lush/Osea as of right now)
4. Wheel lock for my car (I'm afraid it'll get stolen), it's just too old and cool.
5. My kitties, which technically is two, but I can stick one in my jacket and hide it. So technically, you'll only see one. So that counts as 5.
A few words on getting Inde’s beautiful natural hair and rad mohawk look from the creator himself Ted Gibson:
Ted: “Inde walk in and I was so excited about doing her hair. even before I met her I knew she had really cool girl vibes and that I could do something fun modern interesting and most of all FASHION Editorial. Create two different looks on her.
Number 1 was easy breezy every girl in America Hair. Lightly textured no volume and bangs. I used STARRING Shooting Star Texture Meringue over the entire head then suing a flatbrush to blow-dry because I didn’t want any volume. After the blow-dry I used a large bareel curling tong 2 inch barrel because I just wanted a slight bend nothing to fancy just some movement in her hair so that when she is walking down the street it moved and felt natural. I flat ironed the bangs so that they were flat to her head.
Number 2 was Cool girl vibes in MISFIT Tee I hade some great references. Kate Moss, and 1980s Punk era. This ment Modern Mohawk. I started of with black elastics STARRING Shooting Star Texture Meringue and a rat tail comb for sectioning. The sections are important when creating this Vibe. I section from one side of the head to the other. About 6 different sections. First one at the front hairline in a triangle shape using an elastic to secure the ponytail. I did the same thing on the 5 other sections. Starting at the front I used STARRING Shooting Star Texture Meringue on this section. Using my blow dryer to dry each section then used a flatiron to make into flat panels on the head. Then followed up with ELnett hair spray to make sure it would stand up. I had limited time I think I did the entire head in less than 35 minutes. That was a record since I haven’t done this look in a really long time.”
