Jennifer Morrison

Jennifer Morrison spent 24 hrs in NYC recently and we were lucky enough to spend a few of them with her. There was much to catch up on since last we saw her. A new mother, more directing gigs, and now the co-founder of Amia, a food that anyone who suffers from migraines should snag asap! She attended the Young Lions Award event at the New York Public Library and then was flying off to direct an episode of Yellowjackets. When we arrived at her hotel to do makeup and photos the sun was covered with clouds and buildings...we were slightly thrown off as natural light is our favorite. Jennifer calmly said “Quitting is not an option.” Thank you Jennifer for being a constant source of inspiration and such a good bare friend. Scroll on down for more of the magnificent Morrison.

The Bare Magazine: Can you fill us in on how your whirlwind trip to NYC was?

Jennifer Morrison: I was about to leave for Vancouver to direct an episode of Yellowjackets so I was trying to compress my time in NYC as much as possible. I love NYC so I usually try to stay as long as possible, but this time it was only 24 hours. I took a red eye into NYC. Luckily, I slept on the flight and I fell asleep in the car on the way to the hotel. I stayed right by the library for easy access. I tucked myself back in for about 3 hours in the hotel and then ventured out for a quick bite to eat and coffee - of course. I steamed my outfits, answered some emails and did some work and then you arrived to start my make up and to take some photos for Bare.

The YOUNG LIONS AWARD event was amazing. I love connecting with the many authors who I admire so very much and I always love seeing the amazing women who run the Young Lions Awards. I thought an extra special element to the after party was the on demand poets. There were 3 poets who sat with typewriters and anyone who was interested in a poem could approach them and they turned around beautiful poems on the spot. Truly spectacular.

Bare: Can you share information on any new directing gigs coming up?

JM: I am currently in prep to direct an episode of Yellowjackets. I am a huge fan of the show and I am thrilled to be a small part of their world. It’s been going amazing so far and I am beyond excited about the script that I get to direct. In September, I will be back in Vancouver to direct an episode of TRACKER. I had a great time popping in at the end of the first season as an actor, and it seems like my character will be back later in the second season as well, but for now, I am super happy to be behind the camera on the show as well.

My production company also just executive produced a short film called FISHTANK for a young filmmaker who I truly believe in, Wendi Tang. The short film is making its rounds at festivals and audiences are loving it. I will get a link to a trailer for the film so you can share it with the audience. Wendi has an extremely unique voice as a writer/director and I am supremely proud to be a part of this film.

Bare: You are now the co founder of Amia - a migraine trigger go-to food. That's exciting. Have you struggled with migraines? How can Amia be of help?

JM: I am very exited about Amia. I am the co-founder (along with Jon Katz) and chief brand officer for the company. I have suffered from ocular migraines since 2011 and Jon has suffered from painful migraines for most of his life. He developed a food product that is free of all of the common food triggers for migraines.

The most common triggers are nuts, chocolate, soy, gluten, artificial sweeteners, and dairy. So imagine if you suffer from migraines, you can grab an Amia bar and confidently know it has only clean ingredients and is free of all of the major trigger foods. 40 million Americans suffer from migraines. Therefore, our mission is to not only bring these Amia bars to the marketplace, but also to develop as many food products as possible that are trigger free. Imagine a whole isle of Amia foods all trigger free for anyone who suffers from migraines. Visit helloamia.com to view the product and to order if you are interested. I LOVE the taste of the bars and I cannot wait to get AMIA out there to help all of the migraine sufferers that I can.

Bare: Switching to your books and The Bookshelf with Jennifer Morrison - what is your goal and inspiration in all the work you do in the literary arena?

JM: THE BOOKSHELF with Jennifer Morrison grew out of my natural love for reading. The library was always my favorite place as a kid. Books took my mind to other worlds and to places outside of my home town. I learned so much about human nature and about empathy from reading nonstop as a kid.

This love overflowed into my adult life and when I realized I could access these incredible authors, the book club/podcast was born. My hope is support up and coming literary voices and to support great literature in any way that I can. Most book clubs out there are trying to get non readers to read. We are a book club for readers who already read who are looking for unique and moving stories that may not yet be mainstream.

Bare: Your skin looked so luminous in our shoot. Would you say besides good genes you are pretty consistent with caring for it, both inside and out?

JM: I am loving Symbiome products. They seem to be the most consistent for my skin. I, of course, drink tons of water and stay consistent with my daily supplements, but the Symbiome products have really upped my game. I also love Augustinus Bader products. I always rotate those into my daily routine as well.

Bare: On the self care front, what is your general routine when you need to recharge and gain balance in your busy life!?

JM: It has been harder to stay true to a general routine now that I am a mom. Time just slips away with the little one. But I try to get up early enough to have time to myself before the baby is up. I meditate, write and often read before the day starts. This always helps me set my mind right. I have also started dry brushing before baths and showers. I fell for Gweneth Paltrow’s Goop ad for it and I don’t regret it. Several times I have woken up feeling sluggish or on the verge of the sniffles and after a good dry brush, bath and meditation I have been good to go. The hardest part is pushing myself to get out of bed when that early alarm goes off. But deep down I know that I never regret getting up early to take proper care of myself.
