Wallis Day
London-born beauty Wallis Day can be seen playing Gigi in the second season of the Netflix hit “Sex Life.” We were thrilled to catch up with her briefly during her whirlwind trip to the Big Apple for New York Fashion week — which was a fitting event for her, as she has modeled on and off since age 13. Whether she’s in motion acting, or simply posing, you’ll quickly see from our photo diary how much the camera lens loves this star on the rise. Before we let her go, we also gathered some intel on her amazing complexion, cool style, vegan diet, and thoughts on the meaning of true friendship. Talent, looks, and realness…this Bare beauty has it all!
The Bare Magazine: What did you love about stepping into your character Gigi on “Sex Life”?
Wallis Day: First, it was wonderful to be able to do a British accent. Most of Gigi’s scenes are emotionally on the heavier side, but overall she is so sweet and kind that it was a nice contrast to play an innocent character rather than a villain.
Bare: Of the characters you've played, which one has had your favorite hair/makeup and style?
WD: My character in “Red Sonja,” Annisia, has to be my favorite. It’s haunting, really unlike any other character’s look we’ve done before. We did a deliberate clash between Annisia and Red Sonja — we bleached the eyebrows, paled the skin tone and kept natural features hollowed and emphasized. Myself, the HOD’s, and the director wanted hair and makeup that you couldn’t take your eyes off, a look that stuck with you afterwards. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I think we’ve done just that.
Bare: Your skin is so luminous! When you are filming are you extra particular about your skincare routine?
WD: Thank you! I swear by my Augustinus Bader skincare, I get regular facials from them in between shoots and my makeup artist always carries 111 skin masks, which are a dream for traveling or long filming days to rehydrate my skin and give me that extra glow.
Bare: Are you selective about what you put in your body? What are your preferred food choices?
WD: I went vegan in 2017, which has been one of the best decisions I ever made and lead to me creating a Plant-Based meat company, Plant Punk, where we are revolutionizing the hyper-processed meat industry. I’m passionate about spreading awareness on the lies we’ve been told by the meat industry, for human health, the environment and animal welfare.
Bare: Who usually trims and colors your hair? Do you have a favorite salon in London?
WD: My incredible hair stylist, Alisha Dobson, she’s a boss and such a goddess. We’ve worked together on and off screen since I was a teenager and I absolutely adore her. Alisha owns the ‘Bleach London’ salons around London and I’m so proud of her.
Bare: You have been working with your makeup/hair artist Joe (who did your makeup for our shoot) for quite sometime...can you share what makes it click?
WD: Sometimes it's more than having hair and makeup done, we get on really well and he manages to keep me calm and in a good space before hitting the red carpets/events, and I think that's shows in the photos. I can also always count to him to have some of my favorites, like Charlotte Tilbury and Ouai in the kit.
Bare: What are some highlights of your modeling days? Do you think it contributed to your amazing comfort level in front of the camera?
WD: I absolutely love modeling, from the rush of walking fashion shows to shooting campaigns, I’ve always been so grateful to do what I love. The experience I gained modeling from the age of 13 definitely enhanced my confidence within the acting industry and made me feel comfortable in front of a camera. It taught me so much from etiquette to the fast pace of the fashion industry, and you’re constantly working with different people so learn how to connect with a broad range of personality types.
Bare: With a hectic schedule how do you stay balanced and keep your inner peace in check?
WD: Honestly I’m still learning. I don’t drink whilst filming, so between jobs I love to unwind with friends. I also think it’s important to spend time on your own; there are always so many people around in this industry that shutting out the noise is so therapeutic.
